Lawyers for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have written to two photographers to stop them following Prince George.
A Buckingham Palace spokesperson told Sky News that the photographers had been told their activities were "tantamount to harassment".
The prince is probably the most famous baby in the world.
He was taken by his parents on their tour of Australia and New Zealand earlier this year and he was very much the star of the show.
An "unofficial" picture of him could command thousands of pounds for the photographer, if newspapers were prepared to publish it.
While Britain's media is aware of the Duke and Duchess's desire to protect their son's privacy, foreign media is more prepared to publish paparazzi-gleaned photos.
The duchess herself was the victim of one such photographer who sold pictures of her sunbathing topless while Kate was staying on a private estate in France with her husband.
The pictures were published in France in Closer magazine, but not in the UK.
Kate, who is expecting the couple's second child, is currently away from the public eye.
She has not been seen since before the pregnancy was announced as she has hyperemesis gravidarum, a form of acute morning sickness.
It can cause severe vomiting and can lead to dehydration.
