A man has been charged with common assault after UKIP leader Nigel Farage was hit by an egg during a campaign visit to Nottingham.
Mr Farage was pelted as he arrived in the city to rally support in the East Midlands for UKIP candidates in the European elections.
Frederick Glenister, 33, was charged in connection with an alleged assault in Wheeler Gate, Nottingham, at around 1.30pm on Thursday, according to police.
Glenister, of Radford, Nottingham, has been released on police bail to appear before city magistrates on May 22.
After the protest, Mr Farage quickly jumped back in his chauffeur-driven car, abandoning a planned walkabout.
He instead went to the Bell Inn near the city's town hall, and ordered a pint of traditional Robin Hood beer.
Earlier, he ruled out running as an MP in the forthcoming Newark by-election.
