Indian-born Ms Saldanha is due to be buried at a cemetery in Shirva, near Mangalore, after the funeral in the Catholic parish church.
The funeral will take place at Our Lady of Health ChurchMs Saldanha's husband Benedict Barboza and their two children Junal and Lisha arrived in India on Sunday with her body, having flown from London after a memorial mass in Westminster Cathedral on Saturday.
After prayers at her mother-in-law's house, the coffin was taken to Our Lady of Health Church for people to pay their respects.
Shirva is her husband's home town. Several of Ms Saldanha's relatives, including her frail mother, live in Mangalore. Ms Saldanha moved to Britain about 12 years ago with her husband.
